Smash opened on Julia Vargas in 2019 with two badminton courts and a secondhand net. There are four courts now, all indoor, all sprung wooden flooring, and the lights are the same ones the collegiate leagues play under — which is the part most people notice first. Courts are booked by the hour and the hour is yours: we do not double-sell a slot or push you off early, and if the group before you overruns, your time is extended, not shortened. Rackets and shuttles are available at the desk if you are coming straight from work. Our coaches run private sessions and small-group clinics around the open-play schedule, and the pro shop restrings while you wait. Parking is in the basement, entrance on the service road. Peak hours are 6pm to 10pm on weekdays — book ahead for those; weekday mornings are usually wide open.

Coach, juniors programme. Patient with beginners and very good at fixing a self-taught grip before it becomes an injury.

Founder and head coach. Played in the collegiate league for six years and now runs the coaching programme and the Sunday club nights.
Courts are genuinely well kept and the flooring has real give. Booked 8pm on a Friday, walked on at 8pm sharp, nobody hurried us off.
